Oxjam - 31 days full of life-changing music. Quite literally. Oxjam is one huge UK wide music festival taking place throughout October to raise lots of cash for Oxfam.
12th July 2006 saw the launch of the UK's biggest ever music festival - Oxjam. Spanning the month of October, Oxjam is a unique music experience that aims to stage 2, 500 music events around the country to raise money for Oxfam.
From 1st October, a wide range of gigs and concerts will take place throughout the UK, organised by members of the public. Local bands, music groups and solo acts of all ages and abilities will be performing to raise money for the charity. Live8 gave the public the chance to watch some of the biggest names in music perform, with Oxjam everyone gets to be on stage
With acts such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Lily Allen, Franz Ferdinand and GoldFrapp already lending support, Oxjam is the first event of its kind that allows everyone around the UK to be involved. Over 2, 500 events are expected to take place throughout October offering over 3, 000 hours of musical entertainment. With two and a half months still to go, 650 gigs are already scheduled to take place. Ricky Wilson, lead singer of the award-winning group the Kaiser Chiefs, says: Oxjam is a new festival that will keep up the momentum of Live8. Whether its shaking a tambourine for hours, dancing til the break of dawn or forming a band on the spot. Big or small, it doesn't matter. Please sign up and make a noise
Whether its watching Britains youngest band of babies shaking a tambourine or being lucky enough to catch an A-list act performing in their home town, Oxjam allows everyone around the UK to use music to take action on poverty.
